ORC Guest Participant

Ahem... is this thing on??

I started this blog in 2013 when my husband and I first moved into our home and had a few posts about how I was starting to decorate.. and then, life happened and I stopped blogging.

But Im back now and cant wait to get started with decorating again!!

I recently became a new mom and have a 4 month old son so that will definetly have a play in my decorating

I have picked back up this blog to participate in the One Room Challenge. I have been watching on the sidelines of this amazing transformation of rooms for over a year now and I think Im ready for my own challenge!!

There a lot of options of which room to choose, but I think for this challenge Im going to tackle the Master Bedroom. We literally just received our new king sized bed and I think with this new addition it just puts the room over the edge and is just begging for a makeover. The basics of the room will stay--- the wall color, the curtains, the bed, and couch... but the rest will change.. Im thinking of a new coffee table, new pillows, new bedding, and artwork.. that will absolutely change the feeling of this room.. and i cant wait!!

Dining Room Changes

ch-ch-cha-changes!!

Its pretty incredible to look back at my old pictures and be able to see the transformation of my house. It will definitely be nice to look back and see how my style and taste has changed and evolved.
I think the biggest transformation in my house, other than my half bath, is the dining room. One of the requirements to finding a house was that it had to have a formal dining room. Even though we haven't eaten there one single time, I knew it was a room that I wanted.

The first thing that we I did when we bought the house was paint the bottom of the wall under the chair rail. It was old white trim paint and definitely not the right sheen, but at least it was done. I thought it made the room look a million times fancier. I have plans to add frames around the wall, but that's another project for another day. Then, I just threw extra furniture in the room. We also changed the light. It was a little chandelier that we ended up putting above the kitchen table. It just didn't look right for the space. this new light was a light that Ryan bought me for valentines day.

You can see here that I was already sampling the navy grasscloth on the wall. I also threw in my buffet in this room, but it just didn't go well. And my $10 bar cart in the side. I love that thing!

Then, we finally got a dining room table off CL. I think it was $125 or something and it came with 8 cane back chairs. I painted each chair by hand a white color. I was tempted to refinish the top of the table, but that might be a project for later down the road. Also, the buffet was moved into the den. The little cabinet on the right was my first piece of real furniture I had in law school. it held my tv, but was badly damaged in my move back home. I eventually gave it to my brother.

Also, you can see that I hung white faux silk curtains and the navy grasscloth is up. The grasscloth was put up by me and my aunt. we really tried hard, but it was a very bad job. I even had the company send me a free roll of grasscloth it was so bad. I eventually need to redo the thing!

And now you can see the complete transformation. After refinishing the wooden buffet, brining Ryan's grey table from the living room and adding more accessories (like that incredible horse painting from World Market) the room is starting to feel like a formal dining room.

Although I never wanted to admit it though, that light just wasn't working. It seemed more like a living room light than a dining room light. I wanted a fancy chandelier. oh, one day.

this picture was put on my Instagram feed and was the most popular picture by far, to date.. I think the laundry room transformation might be in a close second though.

And now, with the new crystal chandelier, all decorated for thanksgiving. I love this light! it makes the room and finally screams dining room! Ryan and I sat for a long time trying to figure out where all the crystals went, but we finally got it. Oh, I love it so! and for only $150, I think it was pretty awesome!! I would love to take it with me in the next house, but I doubt we would want to put up all those crystals again :)

my plans for this room in the future is to finish out the framing on the bottom of the chair rail, find better art for the wall above the grey table and find a rug.. the rug part is tricky cause the living room rug will fight for attention, but hopefully we can find something that will both work
